Brighten up the school day
The Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art offers many ways to revitalise your teaching. Modern art often awakens the senses and takes a stand on political issues and history. Fine arts can morph into literature, carry knowledge on other cultures or illustrate the physics of light and colour. Think outside the box and include the museum in your curriculum.
Feb, 8th – May 18th, 2019
The exhibition consists of the photography and video art works of Salla Tykkä (b. 1973) from the 1990's to present day. The focal themes of the artists work are gaze, power, and corporeal existence. The theme of the exhibition is armed conflicts from the point of view of the civilians and victims. Although it is timely to look back at the Finnish Civil War, fought in 1918, this exhibition also covers present-day conflicts around the world. Works by Finnish artists reflecting the Civil War are presented alongside works of international artists that deal woth the wars of our own time.
