Hazardous substances might because of their qualities cause harm to people or the environment. All people deal with these types of substances every day at their homes or at work. The content of harmful substances in most products is, however, quite insignificant.

The most common types of chemicals used at households are detergents, paints, glue, fuels or other types of oil products. Pesticides are often used in garden and yard care. The orange danger symbol on the product and the risk phrases on the label inform you about the hazardous qualities of the product.

The risks of hazardous substances at home can be decreased by keeping the substances in a safe place and out of children's reach. It is also worthwhile reading closely the markings and instructions on the container.
