Visiting
Contemporary art by the river
The Wäinö Aaltonen Museum of Art (WAM) is the Turku City Art Museum named in honour of the famous Turku born sculptor, Wäinö Aaltonen (1894–1966). For nearly 50 years this modernist white museum building has reflected itself in the Aurajoki river, becoming an intrinsic part of the urban cultural landscape on the east bank.
The middle-aged museum isn’t content to just rest on its laurels, but is presenting new and experimental art projects. In addition to changing exhibitions, the programme includes various cultural events, lectures, concerts and themed days for families.
The museum will be closed for renovation from 13 May. WAM's exhibition activities will continue in autumn 2024 in the Taiteen talo art centre’s Kilta gallery. WAM will reopen in autumn 2026.
